general question, wouldn't markdown rendering be more adequate than a linker from cassis?

I’d caution against using markdown. Publishing markdown means you expect every person who follows you to use a client that supports markdown, which isn’t terribly realistic.

With microblogging, it’s probably sufficient to support links and “mentions”.
so.. why not embed markdown in fritter?
Lots of reasons. 1. The JS bundle size will need to grow to support it 2. On the grand scale of things, not many people know markdown 3. I think it’s overkill for a microblogging app. Of course everyone can customize their client however they like
and hashtags, and inline avatars, and shothands for posts and profiles, and groups (for ez discovery sake among other things)
Yeah, eventually! Right now we’re trying to focus on core functionality.
